Grindstone is a family owned + operated wine brand with roots in the Sacramento Valley since the mid 1800s. Their modern farmhouse tasting room is located in the Dunnigan Hills AVA of Yolo County.
Although their tasting room only opened 3 years ago (July 2020), their story begins in 1997. High school sweethearts, Mike & Amy Doherty, were not only starting their family but also planting their very first commercial vineyard. Both coming from generations of farming families, Mike pursued a Fruit Science degree at Cal Poly SLO and Amy pursued an Agricultural Business degree from UC Davis. Together they wanted to diversify the commodities and venture into wine grapes.
In 2010, with 115 acres planted winemakers and their wineries repeatedly clamoring for more wine grapes, they decided to start their wine label and be a part of the esteemed California winery industry. The brand emerged with the name “Grindstone”. Fast forward, to 2023, they have a modern farmhouse tasting room located north of Esparto completely ran by family, their niece and daughters.
As a family rooted in California’s abundant Sacramento Valley, they are proud to share their many award winning wines, which include estate grown Rosé of Syrah and small lot, single vineyard Petit Verdot. This proud boutique winery with numerous Best of Class wines, double gold and gold awards invite you to sip on the patio with an endless view of vineyards and the Pacific Coast Range.
