Leon and Shirley Sobon created one of the first four wineries in Amador County’s Shenandoah Valley appellation when they founded Shenandoah Vineyards in 1977. From the first offering of 1,200 cases, the winery has thrived with award winning wines.

Sobon Estate was formed in 1989 when Leon and Shirley Sobon bought each other a second winery for their 30th wedding anniversary. The historic D’Agostini Winery – California State Historic Landmark #762 – is one of the oldest in the state. The accompanying old vine Zinfandel was retained, and other vineyards replanted with the best varieties and clones.

The Sobon Estate label features choice micro-climates & soils, matched with carefully selected vines situated in the highest elevations in the Shenandoah Valley! The Sobon family is dedicated to producing rich, full flavored wines with respect for the environment.

Second generation Winemaker Paul Sobon studied in France and Australia before taking over the lead Winemaker role at Sobon Family Wines. Working today with his nephew Austin, they craft fan pleasing state-of-the-art Zinfandels, Cabernets, Rhone whites and many other Reds.
