Robert Smerling quit his job as an investment banker to pursue his love of wine and wine making. After 17 years of making wine at Renwood, he was looking for a new challenge. His daughters wanted to open an urban winery, and that is how Cabana began.

Cabana is a boutique winery; they ferment in small lots and barrel-age the wines in French oak. Robert then uses his 27 years of wine making experience to make the final blend of Cabana’s award-winning wines. Cabana’s grapes come from vineyards located in Napa, Sonoma, and Lodi. Their flagship wine is RISK Cabernet from Oakville in Napa. RISK (Robert, Irene, Sarah, and Kelly) is the pinnacle of Robert’s years as a winemaker, winning numerous double gold medals.
