Stop and Smell the Roses at the California State Fair
There are fresh flowers galore at this year’s California State Fair! Visit the California Grown Floral Shop (in Building B) where floral designers will demonstrate how to make beautiful floral arrangements with CA GROWN flowers. The State Fair Farm features a Hydroponic Flower Greenhouse (next to the Aquaponics Exhibit) filled with Gerbera daisies in a professional hydroponics system as well as DIY hydroponics systems from Woodland High School and Community College.
The California State Fair has declared July 19 Flower Day!
See floral designers and chefs in action! Student and professional floral designers will compete throughout the day in qualifying competitions. In the evening, three chefs will create a dish using edible flowers. CA Grown will also be giving a way a free bouquet every hour on Flower Day.
- 11 AM – Student Floral Design Competition: Student designers will compete in a Surprise Package & Designer’s Theme Composition using CA GROWN flowers.
- 3 PM – Top Ten Floral Design Competition: Skilled floral designers will compete in a Surprise Package & Designer’s Theme Composition using CA GROWN flowers.
- 7 PM: Farm to Fork Edible Flower Cooking Demonstration & Flower to Vase Tablescape Competition
Three local chefs will prepare dishes highlighting edible flowers and floral designers will create tablescapes incorporating each chef’s flower.
Exhibits are in partnership with the California State Floral Association, the California Cut Flower Commission and CA GROWN.
