Local Chefs Celebrate Spring with Upcoming Asparagus Week
It’s green, it’s crunchy and it’s delicious – we’re talking about fresh, local asparagus. While already a favorite ingredient of local chefs, the California Asparagus Commission has turned up area enthusiasm for this yummy vegetable by announcing the first California Asparagus Week restaurant competition in Sacramento.
To celebrate the abundance of asparagus available to our local chefs, the California Asparagus Commission is challenging Sacramento-area restaurants to create special menu items in early May that feature the delectable veggie. During California Asparagus Week, participating restaurants will compete to see which sells the most of its asparagus-themed menu items between May 5 and May 12.
The result is a delicious deal for both diners and chefs – the winning restaurant will receive a cash prize to benefit its business, and restaurant patrons can support their favorite local eatery while enjoying one of spring’s best produce offerings.
