The best of the Sacramento region’s wine country will be showcased Thursday, Sept. 18 in an idyllic setting: twilight on the west steps of the State Capitol in downtown Sacramento.

The first of three marquee events in the second-annual Farm-to-Fork Celebration, the Farm-to-Fork Legends of Wine tasting event combines samplings of the region’s best cheese and wines chosen by two of Sacramento’s internationally recognized culinary powerhouses – Darrell Corti and David Berkley. Corti was called the man “who knows more about food and wine than anyone else in the world” by Saveur Magazine, and Berkley is considered the man behind the White House wine list.

Last year’s inaugural Legends of Wine event saw an intimate gathering of locals and visitors, and it was equally enjoyable for wine connoisseurs and those who were attending their first large-scale wine-tasting event. The Capitol provided a picture-perfect backdrop as a pianist played in front of the grand entrance.

Attendees were treated to an unlimited amount of samples both of artisan cheese, local fruits and local wines, and given the spectacular venue, many of the people pouring wines were the actual winemakers and owners themselves, who didn’t want to miss out on a one-of-a-kind venue.

Everyone at the event will also be able to try some of Sacramento’s best frozen treats as Devine Gelateria brings gelato specially made for the event with local fruit and sorbetto made with wine.

This year’s event promises to be even better-attended, but expect the same level of access to the people who usually work behind the scenes. For those planning to explore local appellations such as El Dorado, Amador, Clarksburg and more, attending Legends of Wine is a great way to get a taste for which wineries you’d like to visit.

At least 35 wineries will be pouring at the event, including Andis Wines, Bogle Vineyards, Capay Valley vineyards, Putah Creek Winery, Terre Rouge & Easton Wines, Revolution Wines and David Girard Vineyard.

The event runs from 6 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at the California State Capitol west steps, at the intersection of 10th Street and Capitol Mall. Parking is available nearby at the Capitol Parking Garage at 1303 10th St.

Tickets to the event are $50, and admission includes wine tastings, cheese and fruit for the full length of the event, along with a souvenir wine glass with America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital logo. View the event page for a complete listing of participating wineries and to purchase tickets.
