California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom Celebrates Farm-to-Fork Festival

SACRAMENTO, CA— Sacramento’s inaugural Farm-to-Fork week is officially underway. On Saturday, September 28, 2013 California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom (CFAITC) is excited to participate in the Farm-to-Fork Festival. The free festival will feature a selection of everything Sacramento has to offer in the farm-to-fork industry. Local chefs, farmers, and other food producers will be featured along with animal displays, a kids’ zone and live music. Festival attendees will be able to learn about the farm-to-fork process from the field to their plates.

CFAITC engaged California 4-H and FFA programs in the festival. 4-H members from throughout the state will bring 12 livestock animals and various display boards featuring their animal and healthy living projects. Linden-Peters 4-H member, Elisabeth Watkins, will be “Carving Up Beauty” with her vegetable carving demonstration on the Kids’ Stage. Students from four FFA chapters will help festival attendees plant tomato seeds at the Chipotle exhibit and will assist attendees in playing agriculturally-themed games at the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom exhibit. Attendees will learn how agriculture plays a role in their lives by tracing items they use every day to the crops they came from.

Festival attendees will also be able to visit and learn about agriculture from farmers and ranchers at the Farmers and Ranchers Café. CFAITC has arranged for producers to share their important role in the farm-to-fork process with the festival attendees. “This is a great opportunity for the agricultural community to share with the general public about the important job of providing the world with the many necessities we rely on every day,” said Judy Culbertson, CFAITC executive director.

The Farm-to-Fork Festival will showcase all of the many reasons why Sacramento is America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital. Be sure to stop by Agriculture in the Classroom’s exhibit on the corner of Capitol Mall and Sixth Street to learn about agriculture and visit with farmers and ranchers. We hope to see you there!
