“AMERICAN IDOL” SINGER CRYSTAL BOWERSOX TO ENTERTAIN AT THIRD ANNUAL CAPAY CRUSH
Local wine, grape stomping and performer Naia Kete from “The Voice” are
highlights of this year’s festival

Capay, Calif., Sept. 4, 2013 ─ Farm Fresh To You and Capay Organic invite the public to Capay Crush, the farm’s third annual grape festival, that will celebrate the crush season and all things grape. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Event proceeds benefit the Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture (KBNP).

“American Idol” singer Crystal Bowersox, who was the 1st runner-up in season 9 of the popular show, will headline the entertainment for the evening. Naia Kete, seen on “The Voice” will open the show at 5 p.m. Bowersox will take the stage at 7 p.m.

In addition to nationally known talent, the grape crush will be celebrated with local wineries Seka Hills and Turkovich Family Vineyards pouring, grape stomping for fun, kids’ arts and crafts, grape-themed activities, tractor-tram rides and a harvest activity.

Yolo Farm to Fork will provide an educational hands-on activity “Grain to Bread.” Children will be able to experience the transformative process of turning grain into their very own delicious pizza. The activity begins with locally grown wheat and takes children through the steps of bread-making – threshing, winnowing and grinding grain, then kneading dough, and baking pizza in a wood-fired oven provided by Caffé Italia. Adults can order pizza too.

Other vendors for the event include: Café Mugshot, Ruhstaller Beer, Wicked ‘Wich food truck and a local taco truck.

The Kathleen Barsotti Non-Profit for Sustainable Agriculture gives an annual scholarship to a high school senior planning on pursuing a field related to sustainable agriculture. KBNP also donates school supplies to farmworker families in the Capay Valley. This August and September, KBNP donated over 550 backpacks stocked with school supplies for local students.

“Celebrating products from our region and inviting people out to the land that grows their food is part of supporting the sustainable agriculture movement,” said Thaddeus Barsotti, farmer and co-owner. Farm Fresh To You. “Listening to live music on a cool, September evening and enjoying local food and wine – what could be better?”
