CA State Fair Farm Offers School Tours
From Cal Expo and the California State Fair
The California State Fair Farm School Tours are now open for 2016 registration. The tours are intended to increase interest in food production and academic/career opportunities available in California’s agriculture industry.
This program is available for grades K-6 with an emphasis on third and fourth grade curriculum. Each tour is an hour and a half to two hours long and focuses on the history of California agriculture, modern and traditional farming techniques, growing fresh produce from seeds to plants, and innovations in California agriculture as a response to the drought. Participants will also learn about soil and worm composting and will have the chance to taste farm fresh produce.
During the Farm Tours, students rotate through several interactive stations set up at the award-winning State Fair Farm located at Cal Expo. As the country’s largest agricultural producer and exporter, California accounts for nearly three million jobs in this field. Each summer, the California State Fair celebrates the State’s agricultural roots and works to mobilize interest for young minds to pursue a career in agriculture and to further contribute to this bountiful state.
All 2016 tours are $9 per student which includes admission, take home materials and activities. Reservations for The California State Fair Farm Tours can be made online at CAStateFair.org/farmtours or by contacting Natalie Minas at 916-263-3277.
