Sacramento native Ravin Patel began his culinary journey at age 12, working in his family’s grocery store and deli. Working with his family and cooking in restaurants while pursuing a finance degree at UC Davis, it wasn’t until graduating that Chef Patel considered cooking as a career.
After graduating from the French Culinary Institute of New York, Patel joined the New York City culinary scene and an externship at the former French restaurant Montrachet, where he worked with renowned Chef Ian Russo as a line cook and sous chef. He also served as a line cook and sous chef for Danny Meyer’s Michelin starred restaurant, The Modern, where he gained true knowledge and understanding of a fine-dining experience.
Patel joined the Selland Family Restaurant Group in 2009 as a line cook at Ella. Within a year he was promoted to executive sous chef and shortly thereafter became executive chef for the restaurant, earning four stars in all categories from the Sacramento Bee. In March 2014, Patel became executive chef for the Selland Family Restaurant Group, doing everything from supporting staff and cooking at each restaurant, to ensuring brand identity of each restaurant under Selland Family Restaurants.
