Sakuramento to Host Farm-to-Fork Sukiyaki Dinner
Sakuramento invites you to celebrate Sacramento’s Japanese heritage through food, nature and community at its farm-to-fork Sukiyaki dinner on Sept. 12.
Sukiyaki has been a staple of Japanese culture since the Edo period (1603-1868), mostly prepared during special events and Japanese year-end parties. This historical dish consists of a soup or stew that is served hot pot style, ornabemono. Ingredients range from soy sauce and sugar to delicious meats, tofu, noodles and a colorful array of vegetables, which are simmered in a pot to cook. The Sakuramento Farm-to-Fork Sukiyaki Dinner will feature local produce and a team of Japanese “moms” to manage the table-side preparation, topped off with delicious mochi for dessert.
