Food on the Silver Screen
The Sacramento Food Film Festival will return to the Sacramento region next month, bringing a wide array of food-focused films and corresponding meals. The 2015 Festival is scheduled for March 18 – 29, and boasts films and food that range from family-friendly to elegant and upscale. All proceeds will benefit the Food Literacy Center.
To kick off the events, the festival will premiere the winners of the festival’s short film contest held earlier in the year. Additional highlights of this year’s film lineup include ”Soul of a Banquet,” which chronicles the journey of Cecilia Chen, who is credited with introducing Americans to authentic Chinese cuisine. Guests at the March 20 screening will enjoy an authentic, three-course Chinese meal from Frank Fat’s Executive Chef Mike Lim. For the 21-and-over crowd, Ruhstaller Brewery hosts a screening of ”The Farmer and the Chef,” complete with local beers and bites from chefs of Dirty Feet Dining. Or, kids and the young at heart can savor a plate of spaghetti from Selland’s while taking in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at the Clunie Community Center on March 27.
The Festival organizers “seek to bring educational films to our region that are otherwise ignored by traditional theaters—and to create a community dialog to improve food literacy and invoke action to improve our food system.”
