Having baked most of her life, Justine Cabanilla has always enjoyed whipping up the perfect sweet treat for those around her. She started baking for family, friends and co-workers which only deepened her passion and dream of owning her own business. She started Sugar Sweetery as a side hustle to her accounting job and managed to rope her wife, Candice Cabanilla, into learning how to bake to help with the business. After seeing the potential, this sweet duo decided it was time to go all in and left their full-time careers to focus more energy into their own dream.
Sugar Sweetery is based out of Rancho Cordova and specializes in cakes, cookies, macarons, cheesecakes and many other delicious desserts. Candice also uses her background in managerial roles to inspire new popups, themed treat weeks and even organizing events that allow Sugar Sweetery to reach new heights.
They are a woman-, queer-, minority- and veteran-owned business and have been on GoodDay Sacramento, Studio40 Live, as well as featured in Real Weddings Magazine, Style Mag, Comstock Magazine and more. Sugar Sweetery was also a Sac Republic LGBTQIA Kickstart winner in 2021.
From one small kitchen to a thriving baking business, Sugar Sweetery continues to celebrate life with a sweet state of mind.
