Ben Horpedahl began his culinary career at Paragary’s working under chefs Scott Rose and Kurt Spataro, as he worked his way to the Lead Line Cook. Horpedahl then left to work under chefs Phillip Wang and John Gurnee at the esteemed Masons in Downtown Sacramento, where he was promoted to Sous Chef, a position he held for three years. As Horpedahl honed his culinary skills, he took a position as the Executive Chef and helped open Mix Downtown. After moving away briefly to pursue other career endeavors, Horpedahl made his way back to Sacramento, pulled in by the ever-growing and exciting dining scene, where he took the position as Sous Chef at Ella Dining Room and Bar. Horpedahl was then promoted to Chef de Cuisine, a position he held for several years.

Currently, Horpedahl holds the position of Chief Culinary Officer for Selland Family Restaurants, where he oversees all culinary operations for The Kitchen Restaurant, Ella Dining Room and Bar, three Selland’s Market-Café locations including H Street Sacramento, Broadway Sacramento and El Dorado Hills, as well as OBO’ Italian Table and Bar. Day-to-day management includes menu development, product sourcing, equipment purchasing and staff training to ensure that each concept is connected under the umbrella of the restaurant group, cultivating the Selland family’s vision for their restaurants, bringing the freshest local ingredients, and preparing with the highest level of quality.
